How do you fix a “Power button lockout” problem on an HP monitor?

You keep on holding down on the power button until the monitor turns off.

And you shouldn’t have the problem again.

Hold down the power button for 30 seconds and bring it back up, issue should be resolved with this fix.

It has worked in the past for me, but every now and again it’s locked. It won’t unlock now even if I press for longer than 30 (!) seconds (my thumb starts to hurt…).
Why did they come up with this ‘feature’ anyway?
