On the record, I’m not writing the name of “Delirious?” with a question mark because it’s my style, that’s really the name of the band.
So what exactly is Delirious? Think British, like U2, although they do have the potential to sound like the Beatles (see previous post) on occasion. I discovered them back in 5th grade, when the class was putting on the play “Esther.” The basic theme was “For such a time as this,” and the song “History maker” seemed to fit perfectly into the pattern.
Is it true today that when people pray
Cloudless skies will break
Kings and queens will shake
Yes it’s true and I believe it
I’m living for you
Is it true today that when people pray
We’ll see dead men rise
And the blind set free
Yes it’s true and I believe it
I’m living for you
I’m gonna be a history maker in this land
I’m gonna be a speaker of truth to all mankind
I’m gonna stand, I’m gonna run
Into your arms, into your arms again
Into your arms, into your arms again
Well it’s true today that when people stand
With the fire of God, and the truth in hand
We’ll see miracles, we’ll see angels sing
We’ll see broken hearts making history
Yes it’s true and I believe it
We’re living for you
Meaningful lyrics, loud music… I think it’s a parent’s Christian music nightmare come true. (What to do, father?)

I notice this the more I go around. The Beatles were more than just a rock group, they were the group. Not even a decade of music, and their songs live on in our hearts.
I guess it goes to show that a rock group doesn’t have to be annoying, loud, or sing songs filled to the brim with swearing to attract a crowd. They could sing about the simple things of life, add some classical music, and voila! a creation. (One of their songs was indeed rumoured to be playing the Moonlight Sonata backwards in the background.)
The biggest Beatles shrine I know of is at the home of my piano teacher, in the practice room. Three of the four walls are coated with promotional posters, calendars, record labels, and anything else imaginable to do with Beatles. They will live on forever in music.

Lots of people don’t really share my ideas of music, which are, in a nutshell:
- Classical is good. And it’s never in short supply.
- Modern is bad. It needs to ferment for at least 30 years before I’d consider it.
There was someone who once said to me (after wondering why I like this kind of music), “Why do you listen to Bach? He [is terrible].” I replied, “I half agree. That’s why I listen to Vivaldi instead. More energy.” Some people will never understand.
